Comment and suggestion about edu20 (http://edu20.com/) vs Studeous (http://studeous.com/)… Web 2.0 LMS
First, studeous is clumsy and too linear. I just didn’t get an “educational” feeling about it. A piece of software should allow a user (administrator, instructor, learner and guests) to proceed in a teaching-learning style they choose not dictate one to them. I feel that edu20 does that!
I love the core organizational flow of edu20 for BOTH teacher and learner! As a professor for 30+ years I think in terms of School => Instructor => Class => Course <=> Content <=> Learning Activities <=> Learners => Assessment => Feedback => Student <=> Instructor(s), be that self-paced or instructor-led. edu20 allows me to easily build a course along these lines. Resource (people and content) sharing and reuseability are definite added VALUES!
One thing that is missing – I would love to see edu20 allow a mastery level approach (unless it’s there and I don’t know about it) – let’s say a course is built with 1-30 units with each unit perhaps having sub unit(s) 1.1, 1.2, 1.n, etc. (lessons and sublessons); a pre-test is given in each unit to ascertain learners knowledge of that unit/sub-unit(s)… if a certain score is obtained a learner can proficiency that unit(s) and go to another. Consequently, there are many weaves, paths that a learner might follow within a course. A post-test is given to certify mastery. Just a thought…
The more I use edu20 the more ‘n’ more I love it… it’s social, collaborative, etc., e-learning 2.0 in its fullest. I definitely intend to use it. BUT, I don’t much about edu20 sustainability, business plan and roadmap. I intend to keep a close eye on these items. Hopefully, it works out since edu20 is a good application.
Have you used edu20 and/or studeous? What is your opinion about either or both? Other SN LMSs?
Ciao, Bill…

Are you serious, Bill?
Edu 2.0 can’t even compete with Studeous in terms of functionality and UI.
Get real.
Steven, I asked for “What is your opinion about either or both?” Your “get real…” is a value judgment of a person not an LMS. It would be nice if you would offer your perspective of Studeous that all of us would benefit from.
So, tell us why you think Studeous outweighs Edu 2.0 in terms of functionality and UI? Now, that would be social networking and not social bashing. I look forward to reading a constructive contribution.
I would suggest taking a look at Moodle (moodle.org). It IMHO has what you like about Edu 2.0 but also has the capability to control students flow through the course with a little creativity.
Ryan, thanks for the pointer. I have invesitgated the use of Moodle for clients as well and I agree that it does what you wrote nicely.
Resently, I’ve begun to poke around with Microsoft SharePoint.
An instructor can manage course site using Microsoft SharePoint.
